I only saw the tag "good first issue" for the first time the other day. I thought it was more thanking the person that raised the issue like it was the first issue they raised and was wondering how people kept track that it was the first issue they raised...
Makes more sense, like you've explained, that it is for people wanting to actually contribute a change. It does make me wonder though if the name actually could be better? "New contributor friendly"?
