Please explain in your own words what's the importance of responsive web design for you?

Responsive web design seems to have more benefits than drawbacks to me. If I could design a website that could make a majority of customers happy just for functionality alone, I’d rather do that than to make multiple websites, and struggle doing the code for each individual device. I think at first at least I’d focus on responsive design just to make sure my site is universal for all to see comfortably.
