Totally nailed it. Specialization in technical fields is undoubtedly lucrative, but inherently changes the way we interact with humans given the rare context of our roles. Perfectly sociable professionals in our field often suffer from the ”loneliness” factor that was touched on; perhaps not from lack of company, but rather a lack of fulfilling interactions... partially by design of the roles themselves. Advocating what is best for a business is sometimes at odds with an individuals personal life success or happiness.

Community, blogging, and helping others truly is the silver bullet. I may occasionally take pride in my work, but nothing compares to an occasional message, sent from somebody halfway around the world, to express their thanks. That’s the most lucrative aspect of all.
