The worst eperience I had so far was an interviewing process lasting about 3 hours.
First of all there was a meet and greet with some of the folks of the company like the COO, CEO, CTO etc. They asked me a couple of questions and tried to "socialize" with me, faking that the COO had lived in the same town where I lived before and revealing the fake to me at the end of the session.
After that, I should take an assessment for an hour, which was interupted after half of the time pretending the hour was past and I had to give them my results.
Last but not least a drama like good cop | bad cop took place, one pretending to hire me the other one arguing against. After some time we came to money talk. The moment they offered me a salary 50 % below what is usual the area, I immediately stood up looking in the widened eyes of the interviewers and told them, that they could stick their broken hiring strategy where the sun never shines and went home.
Interestingly that made an impression on them, I heard later from people working at the place, and that this were only a game played on candidates to test their stability and whatnot, and that when I came back, I could get an immediate hire for a good salary. I told them, what I thought of that and started at another company.
I also had a "good cop - bad cop" situation at an job interview for an internship position at a big software company. I was young and very confused about the out-of-nowhere aggression of "bad cop". "good cop" felt bad for me and he secretly gestured towards me that I should calm down. He also nodded reassuringly, basically telling me that I pretty much got my position there.
Turned out that "bad cop" was also "bad cop" during those 3 months I worked there. He had a really bad temper. I had my cubicle right next to him and had to listen to him shout abuse at remote workers on the phone pretty much every day. Ah, good times. I didn't want to work there after that experience.

Hah they tried to mind fuck you - bold move! I wonder how often it pays out for them.
Sounds like you were interviewed by sociopaths.

Interviews are a two way negotiation; play cheap games, get cheap prizes. You did right for yourself.
Or you could have agreed to start on X date. And just never come in. "Just kidding!"
If there weren't any legal implications,I would've done it 😎
That was terrible, really hate when people just dont tell the truth, it's so difficult to find an honest interviewer
