Despite the fact that I live in one of those scenic locales you see people blogging about (Park City UT), my actual work life is pretty much the same as anyone else's. I work in my kitchen on my iMac for 8 hours a day, five days a week.

I only really leverage my location when I'm not working. I use the flexibility to go snowboarding in the morning so I can feel more relaxed about my work day when it does start.

But yeah, laptops on beaches are a no-no. Better to stay inside, get the work done, then fully enjoy that beach with a surfboard.

 

Yeah, I think your lifestyle really nails it. Set yourself up for consistency with computers and the right environment for happiness in other things.
