Disclaimer that I have no evidence behind this, this is just things I've pondered about the platform.
It's easier to follow someone on DEV since you still see anyone that posts on your feed, so unlike something like Twitter - more followers doesn't correspond as directly to more people that will see your content.
I have noticed that some of my more recent posts have more views over time, which I suspect has to do with exactly how DEV handles notifications (which I have not looked much into) - but can also have to do with the content of the post. Someone may follow you for a specific topic, but they may also only read your other posts about that topic.
