Do programmers really have troubles acquiring experience before graduation?

We have all seen it, the memes, the tweets about unrealistic expectations for junior programmers, but is it really like that?

After 8 years of being a programmer and occasional looking for job opportunities I have not seen any requirements that would not be possible to met.

Most of the entry level job requirements (for web developer for example) could be summarized as:

  • 1 or more years of experience in desired language
  • Decent skill in desired programming language (e.g: PHP, ASP)
  • Knowledge of supporting languages (e.g: HTML, CSS, basic JS, SQL)
  • Knowledge of frameworks and libraries (Symfony, Nette, Bootstrap, jQuery...)
  • And a lot shallow knowledge in utilities such as VCS, CI and others.

All of this is actualy possible to acquire before graduation but I still see people complaining about the paradox "I need experience to get job to get experience" but it seems they are not willing to work for free as an intern or do shitty paid job.

Most of my classmates and I already had a job in second year at college, some of them were decent bust mostly not with shitty or no payment.

What is your experience?
