How Bulk SMS Technology Works

The phone is the easiest and most effective way to reach your customers. Since individual calls can get expensive, bulk SMS Dubai is a cheaper and more efficient way to keep in touch with your customers. Bulk SMS is especially useful when you want to keep your customers informed about product updates, announcements, and new releases.

Bulk SMS

Bulk SMS relies on modern technology and can be used with little human intervention. That makes it very efficient. A server using an application programming interface (API) or a desktop using a web SMS interface can be used to send bulk SMS.

API vs Web SMS
An API is available as HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) or HTTPS (HTTP Secure) and connects a website or application to an SMS gateway. SMS gateways are telecommunication channels that are used to send and receive SMS (Short Message Service).

Web browsers facilitate web SMS services. Web SMS users prefer to receive "long numbers", which are essentially the end-user's phone numbers, rather than the "shortcode" option. The latter is also more expensive.

Regardless of the interface, the bulk SMS gateway service is highly specialized and in high demand and has tools to help you track the status and generate reports.

The delivery rate of bulk SMS depends on several factors, but most importantly on the protocol used by the bulk SMS gateway provider.

SMPP or SMTP
Peer-to-peer, or SMPP, short messages are the most reliable method of sending bulk messages. Usually, the network of the mobile operator is used to deliver the messages to phones. Simply put, it uses the same technology that we use to send messages from one phone to another. Because of this, it is also more expensive than SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

SMTP is used to send an email and can also be used to send text messages, although it is not specifically intended for that purpose. However, when a text message is routed over SMTP, there is no guarantee that the message will be delivered or how it will appear on the customer's phone. And although there are statistics on tracking the bulk SMS, it is not possible to determine with certainty whether the SMS was delivered in the intended form. This is exactly why bulk SMS gateway providers using the SMTP protocol are much cheaper than those using SMPP. SMPP is more expensive because it pays to use the carrier's network for every SMS sent with it.
