Calling all UI designers, frontend dudes, CSS lovers...

sidchaudhary04 profile image Siddharth Chaudhary Updated on ・1 min read

Hello,

Are you interested in frontend development, design, css, html, or javascript?

I'm sure everyone on dev.to knows about forem, the open source software that powers it.

So, imagine a forem with everything to do with just frontend design and development!

Why not just dev.to

Dev.to is a great platform. However, sometimes because dev.to is so big, your post can get lost in a vast sea of other posts. So imagine a dev.to just for frontend dudes like us.

Please reply if you are interested.

dev.to is so big but we have a tag system. We can easily filter using only Frontend dev tag related (CSS, HTML, JS, etc). This is what I am doing actually.

Yes but imagine a separate community. I know you can have tags but it is the same case with codenewbie. They have a tag and a forem

Yeah, this is the right logic. We can only go so far with tags in a single Forem. DEV offers breadth, but there is a lot of value in spiking on a whole new space.

This definitely should be hosted on Forem and not be built ground up because it's very complementary to DEV in the ecosystem.

Hey! This is cool! I will be totally free after 20th March. If that's okay then please let me know!!!

Edit: Can we use JAMstack? It will be faster, and all we need are Git commits. No need for a backend. Totally static and super cheap...

I've worked with Eleventy before. It's super easy config too...

How would we make a JAMstack forum?

Forum? I thought you meant a sort-of opinionated blogging platform like dev.to...
[Like the open-source project "forem"]

If this is the case, then it's pretty easy. SmashingMagazine went JAMstack a few years ago...

If you meant forum as in Stackoverflow, you'll be better sticking to a proper backend...

If we have enough people replying then the plan will go ahead
We fill probably spin up a forem instance on Heroku. We have a few months to try this out to see if it works

Anything to do with frontend web devlopment, ux, ui, css, html, js, react. Even server side rendering!

This seems interesting but I'm a beginner so I think I can't help. But I would love to join a platform like that where I could learn so much more.

Interesting proposal - I would love to see something like this, but I do think that DEV covers a lot of this already as it's mostly web devs anyway.

Hey! I like this idea. I'll be free post march 16th. If it's ok, message me in DMs or on discord akash_shyam#1109. It would be great if we could make this together.
