Thanks for your views on Turbolinks and why you built this. I definitely agree, in respect to your point about the generated JSON, that this is likely better for your site. It's also much less JavaScript than Turbolinks requires (and I bet a little caching of seen pages, to make your popped history states quicker wouldn't take too much more work).

I'm enthused to try this on my own Jekyll site.
