Great article Max. I like your idea of the three alternatives.

A big problem I see is that people don't really know what is exactly contained in a career path.

For example I see too many misconceptions on technical management.

By the way I remember a fella providing interesting flow diagrams about backend front end and devops. Here it is in case someone finds it useful.

I would love to read about your perspective on technical management and career paths.

The 3 alternatives was from the book Designing Your Life, who had created the Stanford Design Lab for their students.

So I thought it was useful which I had used it as part of the educational materials for the mentoring program in JuniorDev SG.

In terms of what is exactly contained in a career path.

To me, there is not really a general consensus but to find ways to make yourself adaptable and foresee the future by looking in the past with different lens or from Futurists.

Like Buckminster Fuller, Charlie Ang or people in the Singularity University.

I will totally have a look on the perspectives idea and your linked resources.

The thing about different perspectives is being discussed in many books. For example, fewer and fewer people understand the difference between a leader and a manager. Or their correlation.

It is a huge discussion 🙄

Yup, It is I believe in exposing yourself for multiple mental models that will help you to make decisions for yourself.

After reflecting and thinking if this is a good idea or it's a bad idea.

But not result in analysis paralysis to hamper you from taking action.
