To be honest, I've always worked for small companies where no one that the proper time to introduce new members to everything - so it was always kind jump to the water - swim or drown kinda thing. I can imagine having a better process, but as long as you have someone answering product related questions, and preferably a senior or two you can ask technical questions, it's not that bad.
