Jared's examples are intentionally trivial because his intended audience is beginners. Content of your comment makes it pretty clear that you are not the target audience.
Coming into an introductory article and saying, "the examples ... are trivial", as though it were a bad thing, is not helpful; in fact it's hurtful. Why should beginners be given complex examples first? What possible gain is there?
