You're much more of a CSS expert than I am. It's not unusual for me to get something working, but not to understand completely why it works. The interdependencies of the CSS hierarchy can be confusing. So personally, I do try to limit myself as much as possible to a smaller subset when doing layout. Of course, if you really need to do something fancy, knowing how is great.
that's fair, and I also understand not everyone has the time to invest in understanding how everything works. though it does unlock a lot more options and possibilities, and potentially more straightforward solutions in the long run.
my suggestion is to know of the techniques that exist, then invest the time to learn it only when u need it for something u're currently building.
