I got my first job offer from someone who noticed my personal website after seeing me as an active participant on an online forum.
I was in college for physics but was building websites for fun on the side.
I didn't even know what that was - I just showed up for my first day after signing the offer letter.
That’s amazing! I bet you have a pretty unique story there. How did the first job pan out?
The startup exited for $150M, and had I dropped out of college a few months earlier I would have been a 21-year-old millionaire. Such were the days of the dot-com boom. The contacts I made during that first job, however, shaped the rest of my career for the better. It's where I found both my engineering mentor and communication mentor, and without them, I wouldn't be where I am today.
That’s so awesome! Glad it all worked out.
