Feeling jazzy this Monday morning and grooving to some Kamasi Washington. If you've yet to listen to Kamasi Washington play the sax, you're in for a big treat...

I think a good starting place for anybody looking to get into Kamasi Washington + modern jazz & funk is "Street Fighter Mas" from the excellent album Heaven and Earth. The song just has such a cool vibe to it and the music video is equally epic & kinda surreal too. 😎

I remember reading that Kamasi Washington was a huge Street Fighter fan growing up and loved to play it in the arcade — this song is meant to be his enter-the-ring music. Check out the song + music video below and lemme know what y'all think! 🙌

At the moment, I listen to classical music, mostly Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Smetana.

Oh awesome — you can't go wrong with the classics. 🎻

When it comes to orchestral music, I love Gershwin! Big fan of "Rhapsody in Blue". I also really love Aaron Copland — here's "Fanfare for the Common Man". I've been told previously when I worked for a Wagner historian at a bookstore in Scotland that both of my picks are very American, hahaha! 😅

I recently discovered Switched-On Bach by Wendy Carlos. This album is a collection of pieces by Bach performed by Carlos and Benjamin Folkman on one of the original Moog synthesizers. It helped to bring synthesizers into the mainstream in the 70's. You can read more about it on Wikipedia if you're interested.

I find Wagner too pompous, lacking in dynamics, but Gershwin is a wonderful suggestion and I hadn't had Wendy Carlos on my radar, so thanks for that!

I feel ya! I don't have strong opinions on Wagner (haha, left those for my old boss) but from what I remember, my impression was that he was a difficult listen for me because so much of his stuff was heavy and intense. Yeah, I'm looking at you "Flight of the Valkyries" haha! But you know, I couldn't just sit down and relax to Wagner, haha! In other contexts, I think I might dig his stuff, but not in a book store or doing work from home. However, if any Wagner buffs read this comment and have chill Wagner suggestions for me, drop'em. I'm absolutely down to be convinced that I like Wagner, haha!

“Let Go (20th Anniversary Edition)” got me cruising down memory lane recently. Crazy to think 20 years went by so quickly 😅

These two hit the hardest, mood-wise:

Pink Floyd's "On the Turning Away". Two David Gilmour solos as well as an important societal/community message:

Oooo very nice! I love Pink Floyd and this is an excellent live performance. The solos are soulful as ever. The lighting was seriously epic too. They did such a great job filming this! Such a nice way to start my day. 😀 Thanks for the share!

Going back to an wonderful orchestral album from 2000. gives you that old luxury hotel ball room vibe which really helps you isolate and focus to amazing levels.
