Hi, I am a junior java developer, I have a background in Javascript and python before taking up Java. I have often wondered if Java is being left behind and I am glad to have read this piece. I am enthusiastic about the future of the language but I am still worried about the apparent lack of community for the language (I don't mean the JCP) but for a platform where everyday programmers give feedback and share knowledge of the language. This could exist and I don't know about it. In this case I would love if you can point me in the right direction, as I would be extremely glad to join.

Hi @AGuBaNze,
the Java community is very much alive and kicking, but the community is a bit all over the place:

Does that help? :)

As a general note: With the exception of @starbuxman (spring), I personally try to not follow popular "speaker"-types on Twitter. Why? Because content is imho often way too hype driven - and I'm interested in "getting stuff done" :D

I do like @lukaseder , @markuswinand, @vlad_mihaelcae (all tweeting mainly about Java/Databases), as well as @maciejwalkowiak (spring), @sivalabas (down-to-earth java/programming), @franckpachot (oracle), @pdeva (random java stuff) or simply the @java channel - though you need to do some filtering there.
