I use inline latex on my blog. I've modified the backtick escape sequence in markdown, preceded with a $ indicates latex.
$`c'_i = c_i + \phi (D_i) - \phi (D_{i-1})`
WordPress supports this, but I also auto-generate the images locally for preview and export to some targets (custom markdown processing).
I don't actually like latex to be honest. I find it's an overally complex and ugly format for math expressions. Alas, I was unable to find a good modern alternative.
