An application that has to reload the entire page just to mark a record as ticked/complete isn't going to cut it out there in user land, I'm afraid. Some people can over-rely on frameworks but unless you want to develop for people still using Netscape Navigator, the world has moved on and frameworks are a necessary evil. If the W3C could pull its finger out and come up with a combobox autocomplete specification and a decent data-grid, then frameworks wouldn't have to be so nasty.
