No matter if back-end or front-end, VSCode is one of the most used coding editors, especially in 2021.
However, since it's one of the most used applications for every programmer, I bet you love to frequently change your VSCode themes.
Visual Studio Code offers a great variety of options to completely adapt it to your favourite visual theme. What I did to find some hidden gem themes, is to ask Reddit.
I've already used Reddit successfully to find the best WordPress hosting provider, so I thought it might a good idea to look for VSCode themes.
You'll know some of them, but far more important is, you'll have a new favourite VSCode theme after reading this.
BTW, if you like the cover image, you can download this illustration on my free illustrations page.
We start with a pretty classic one called Plastic. I've found this while reading through the VSCode Subreddit.
It's an MIT licensed theme by Will Stone. The colors are not too saturated so you can focus all day long on your programming skills.
Next is a theme for all you night birds, called After Dark. It uses nice bright colors with a dark background, perfect for your night coding session. I really enjoy this one.
Another tip I've found on the VSCode Subreddit, is Iceberg. Didn't know this theme before. It's a bluish theme with a dark and a light mode option. Really cool.
Next one is special. It's called Gloom and the colors are pretty rare and unique.
I love the really bright green and red in conjunction with the subtle bluish color.
Panda is next on the list. This one doesn't use bright colors as before, but it's really subtle and perfect for longer coding session.
Alright, next on is my favourite. I'm working with this theme since July 2021 and I love it.
It's a red-bluish theme with subtle colors and a perfect combination of green and yellow for the code itself.
So, he made it public and now you can download it for free.
For all the Synthwave lovers, a special Synthwave theme for VSCode.
What I have realised is that, programmers tend to love Synthwave. So it's only logical to use it as a theme for your favourite code editor.
Now that we had so many dark themes, let's check out a light one. One theme that get's mentioned a lot on Reddit is Night Owl.
Even it's supposed to be a dark theme, it has a great light version:
A total recommendation by Reddit. However, no worries if you're like me and only into dark mode. Night Owl offers a dark version as well.
Material Darker is another favourite Reddit theme.
It's a high contrast theme. I quite like it.
Alright, to Reddit's last one.
It's a really subtle and special theme, good for the eyes and there is not too much contrast.
That's it. Let me know your favourite VSCode theme in the comments.
