Never buy another domain name from GoDaddy again. Here's why.

GoDaddy is said to be the best site to buy domains from. Apparently, they have the best customer service but don't let the service fool you. Take a look at the prices.

Lots of people use GoDaddy to buy their domain, but quite a lot of them aren't developers and don't know the true price of a domain name. GoDaddy makes you pay monthly while other sites like Google Domains and Freenom don't.

I was talking to someone and he said that he paid $1700 USD a year to keep his domain going! Think about that. $1700 dollars is not in any way a reasonable price.

I bought a domain name from Google domains and it was $14 a year. They will also sell you some for I think $5.49 a year at cheapest. I got the site up and running with Repl.it and UptimeRobot and didn't have to pay monthly for web hosting.

So what I'd recommend is to buy your next domain and all others after that from Google Domains or somewhere else besides GoDaddy.

It definitely depends on the domain name you want. This price difference won't be because of it being GoDaddy.
There are certain differences in pricing between domain name providers but they are very small and tend to be based on what additional services you want e.g. email

It depends what the domain is. google.com is going to be very expensive, for example.

Google.com is already taken, so nobody can buy it. Some domains are really expensive by default but I compared buying the same one on GoDaddy and Google Domains and GoDaddy would have made me pay monthly while Google wouldn't.

Sure, but Google will have to pay a lot of money to a registrar.

For example, this domain is cheap versus this list of expensive domains.

Some domains are quite expensive, but once you own it, renewal shouldn't ever be that high.
I do recommend transferring your domains to Cloudflare.com as it's only $8/yr from then on. You can't buy domains with them [yet], but you can transfer it fairly easily. Took about 30mins to move some from godaddy to them, thereby saving me about $100/yr.
