I have 2 24" 1440p monitors at home. And now I can fit lots of 95-width windows on the screen at once and use them for reference as I'm coding. :)
When I code I like the "workbench" experience, whereas you seem to like the "vista" or maybe "nook" experience. Obviously our brains are structured differently around the process of work. Have your preference that works best for you, but it doesn't seem to fit as prescriptive medicine.
