I think a menu with three options is the sweetspot for exposed menus on mobile. If they're intuitive, you might also get by with emoji for the menu labels. In any case I feel like the hamburger is the "best of a bad bunch" solutions for the mobile web. I don't particularly like it but it does work.
There are many, many more important challenges to be resolved on the mobile web before we think about replacing something that works in general!
