🎡 Still crazy after all these years 🎡

I'm a 61y old developer who rose from system operator to VP IT without a degree and chose to give up the money and 'power' of upper management to return to my first love - development. My latest goals are learning physical computing and living long enough to close my career with 50 years of software development experience.

I find it really uplifting that you came back to programming!

From your experience, what would you say about technologies that get hyped a lot? Are there some that lived up to their hype?

Oh yes:

  • virtualization
  • NoSql when it's used correctly
  • dotnet core & Powershell core
  • Agile - I've been an advocate for nearly 20y and when it is truly embraced its magical

So many more that were never more than a fad. One of these days I'm going to blog my memoirs of nearly 40y as a technologist - good and bad jobs, decisions, stupid mistakes and funny stories.

Git Concepts I Wish I Knew Years Ago

The most used technology by developers is not Javascript.

It's not Python or HTML.

It hardly even gets mentioned in interviews or listed as a pre-requisite for jobs.

I'm talking about Git and version control of course.

One does not simply learn git
