Html/Rtf to Markdown

jwollner5 profile image John 'BBQ' Wollner ・1 min read

Can anyone recommend a simple editor / tool that I can write html/Rtf in and save as markdown? I'm trying to learn MD but I'm finding it hard to write effectively while trying to learn MD. I need something to Jumpstart the conversion process.

I considered Vscode, but there is no WYSIWYG for the writing part which I definitely need.

The tool must support at least windows but a Linux version would be good.

TIA

Hey John VSCode does have a live preview for markdown built in. Read more detail here

If you want to do conversion from HTML/rtf to markdown I would recommend using the CLI tool Pandoc. I have been using it for a number of things recently and it’s awesome. Pandoc has some extra markdown features though and those will likely show up in converting HTML to markdown. You can read about Pandocs markdown features in their docs.

Thx Dan, I'll look at the preview in code, but that's not the issue for me - there's no editor graphics to pick styles and I don't want to stop over and over to lookup and apply batch formatting - Ideally I'd like WYSIWYG interactively.

I think I've found what I'm looking for though - Notable - its a wiki editor that's easy to use and integrates with Chrome so I can send pages directly to it
