I only recommend Vim to people because I think it's critical for people to know how to use the basics eventually. At some point your going to have to ssh into a server and edit a file, and the best way to do that is to use Vim in my experience.
As far as pushing for them to move their whole environment to one centered around Vim.... idk. I think Vim is more enthusiast grade software. Yes you could move faster and do all the things, but some people don't NEED that and are perfectly happy moving at the speed they are now. To each their own.
I think Emacs is for a whole other level of insanity, but I love emacs, and have been using it as a daily driver for a long time. I only recommended it if I think the person is down for the roller coaster ride that can be emacs.
