Working With Fonts: What About It?

Fonts fonts fonts, what do we know about them, what are they used for? Are they to represent text only or do they have other qualities that we may have ignored.
Let's shallow dive in and take a look, who knows what we've been missing.

Fonts are like good friends because we use them for everything unlike my friends they don't complain, if you know what I mean. Font's are used for chats, email, documents to name a few.

Did you know that a font determines how your document or design is received?
Typography is very essential in writing a document or creating a design, which is why it's important to get it right.

Let's take a look at the classifications of fonts:

  • Serif : Serif fonts are a strokes that are attached to the end of a larger stroke in a letter or symbol within a particular font or family of fonts. Examples of commonly used serif fonts are Times New Roman, Garamond, Georgia, Baskerville, and Courier New.

  • Sans-Serif: Unlike the serif fonts, sans- serif does not have extending features called "serifs" at the end of strokes. They have less stroke width variation than serif typefaces. Examples of san-serif fonts are Arial, Helvetica, Proxima Nova, Futura, and Calibri.

  • Script: Script fonts are fluid stroke created by handwriting. They are generally used for display or trade printing. Some examples are Alex Brush, Lobster, Alura, Pacifico, Wind Song etc.

  • Display: Display fonts are used for large sizes for headings, rather than for extended passages of body text that is a font in which the set widths of the characters are wider than in the standard typeface. Some examples are Warnock Pro, Asthetik, Made Canvas, Febre, Gil etc.

In typography it's important to take note of how to use the different classifications of typeface. Typically, Serif and sans-serif are used for body text or headings while while script and display fonts are used for headlines only.

What are the benefits Of Using the right fonts?

  1. Attraction: Font's are used for communicating with people and using the right fonts can attract people when reading your documentation or going through a design.

  2. Professionalism: Fonts are used to communicate professionalism. The content you provide assures people of the what they're receiving and people receive what you have to say mostly on how it looks. For the sake of Aesthetic you must have the right font in place.

  3. Mood: Different fonts evoke different feelings in people, some fonts are used to show seriousness while some
give off a more light and playful vibe.

I'll wrap it up by saying, there's a lot to cover and this is just the beginning.
