It's funny, I went through this process myself a few weeks ago. My concerns were a little different in the sense that I wanted to learn react but I also wanted to use this project to demonstrate my abilities (or lack of it ') in my current job search.

The question you ask was a huge deal for me since I also wanted potential recruiters to look at the code. Obviously this means that the project must relevant enough to raise their interest.

What decided me to go for the ToDoApp anyway was that it allows everyone to focus on the implementation aspects (myself included). That way you can really get the aspects you care about through to the people you are targeting. And, to be honest, I didn't have a better idea.

That was my little experience. What I want to get to is the fact that, like the other comments, I think that it only depends on your goals. A ToDoApp has some interesting advantages over a more original app and definitely should be considered if these advantages match your needs.

If you doubt that your app served anyone, I can prove you wrong. I'll go and check out your hooks implementation to look at what we did in a similar way and, more importantly, to look at what we did differently. At the very least your perspectives will help me improve. Thank you for that.
