In fact, I've heard of something like this before -- "career agents" that coach you and help you find jobs with better salary and benefits, and in return you pay them a certain percent of your first few paychecks. For professionals, that seems like a much better way to go than depending on recruiters who are working for someone else.
We've been exploring this as a possible future element of the DEV business model in some way. Just as a thought experiment at this point, but it sure seems to be something that's bound to happen as the landscape continues to shift and give developers more agency over the relationship.
