But codes of conduct become a problem when they are applied to actions done outside the community. Like the infamous Ashley Williams case. Technical communities should not exclude people for what they prefer to do outside that community.
I'd say that's up to the respective organizers. If I was a conference organizer, it would depend on what they did outside the community. If people are douchebags and harass others elsewhere, I wouldn't want to take the chance of an incident in my community space.
