What's the recommended amount of metadata for a link preview?

When we post a link to any online content, we generally have little previews pop-up. This happens for Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and even Whatsapp.

I know that crawlers use the metadata present in the header of an html document to obtain the info. These are generally contained in the meta tags. Crawlers also use Open Graph meta data specifications (i.e. data stored in with the og prefix) to display preview images and stuff.

I wanted to know what's the minimum set of data that you include for good link previews? Are there any best practices regarding that? I'm curious to know your thoughts.
