WARNING I do not intend to start a battle because of my cover image in this article. I just thought it would be funny.
Hello, users! ๐
Long time we don't read each other!
So it's been almost 6 months since I left web development and joined the gamedev journey. The why's and how's, however, won't be included in this article.
So after all I've been learning I can finally show my first official game... ยกSpace Walk! ๐ฅณ
Space Walk
Space Walk is a 2d-platform-shooter, a project I created for school. In other words, my homework. However, I'm really happy with the result and I wanted to publish it and show it in my portfolio.
Some images:
You can play it here. โจ
The challenge
As homework the requirements were not extensive, but I wanted to take this assignment as a personal challenge and create a game from beginning to end, with a closed level and some mechanics that were hard for me to code.
Thanks!
So I just wanted to show this because I'm really proud I could create this from scratch and with my own knowledge.
Hope you have a great week, read you soon! ๐
PS; You can read the postmortem here.

Congrats on your first game! Always an exciting milestone in game dev.
Back when I was in game dev (before I switched to web dev), my first game was a very basic pong clone except with both players having two paddles instead of one.
So, your space platformer is definitely better than my first game ๐
Thank you, Frank!
Though 2 paddles are definitely better than one, that was a very great idea!
Holy Wow!!!! Amazing!!!!
I jumped down the first hole in the ground and I was very pleasantly surprised there was a whole other "underworld" down there.....
BRAVO!!!!
As a quick note, it only worked in Safari for me, but failed in chrome. Maybe a note?
๐
It's a known issue! Sadly I don't know why ๐ฅ, thanks for playing it, glad you liked it!
Congrats! That sounds very exciting! I'm thinking about checking out the game dev section.
I wanted to test the game but when I click "Run Game" I get a blank screen.

Am I doing something wrong? :/
Hello ๐, it doesn't work properly depending on what browser you're using it seems. Chrome sometimes work, so does Opera and Safari. But I still don't know why, maybe it's due to the version of the browser...
Hey Desirรฉ,
ok :)
for the sake of the completeness: i'm using Chrome 87.0.4280.141.
Hey that's amazing, congratulations! I'm a Front-End dev but I definitely want to learn game development one day, I'm thinking about starting with a Unity 2D course I saw on udemy and some sprite design just like yours, which engine did you use btw?
Sounds nice! I'm using Unity right now, I feel really comfortable with it, didn't took me long to adapt!
Love it! I plan on starting a gamedev journey as well.
Congratulation for your first game, keep sharing your projects ๐ฅ
Thank you so much Killian, feel free to reach me anytime to share gamedev journey's things! ๐
The screenshots look cool man! Maybe you can expand on your current idea, beta test with some of your family/friends and then release the final version on steam.
Congratulations on your first game btw!
You became an inspiration to me. Congratulations on all your achievements, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
Saludos ๐
You are doing very well
Interesting, I made the semi switch as well, though I still heavily enjoy vanilla JavaScript. Though I'm doing Unity3D, gamedev and VR more now. Btw your game is fun to play!
Congratulations. It was pretty fun. I wish you success on this long road :)
Heck yeah!
Ah, what a fun game! I liked the freedom of choosing left or right instead of being forced in one direction.
Really glad someone noticed the path's freedom! ๐ Thanks for playing ๐
Great work! And didnโt knew you switched to game development. Good luck with the new journey. ๐ค
Thank you so much! It's been a crazy ride but I'm enjoying it so much. ๐
Well done ๐ค! You have all the reasons to be proud of yourself.
hmmmm, maybe i should make the switch..
