For the last couple of months, I’ve been quietly blogging here and cross-posting to my workplace blog as well.
The managers on my team have found it and asked me to coordinate a team blog and encourage others in our team to write blogs, beyond what they’re doing now with purely technical documentation.
My day job is to support the data analyst community so I write from the angle of ‘more than one analyst has asked me about x, I’ll write about it.’
My motivation is to help others with what I write. A lot of the time what I think is obvious, others have not been aware of so believe everyone has something to offer by writing about their experiences.
I’d like the team blog to:
Increase awareness of who we are and what we do. In a company of software engineers, the data teams tend to fly under the radar.
Decrease tickets by writing about things people are asking for from our self-service tools.
Encourage our team to write about our projects beyond the technical docs as part of their professional development.
How do I encourage technical team members to write about their work? What are your favourite blog posts on dev.to about blogging best practices and motivation?
Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. We have some keen writers on our analyst team, they just needed to get started.
If you are thinking of starting to blog on dev.to this year there are some great resources here to help you make the move.
