@deniselemonaki this a beautiful write up of your realizations and struggles.

Here is some of my insights for you and new people on this industry. There is clearly a shortage of developers/software engineers but at the same time companies want outrageous experience according to their job descriptions for open positions. On top of that every other post (in dev.to and elsewhere) about job interviews proves that the whole process of interviewing for modern dev jobs is CLEARLY broken.

I stronly believe you can get a job without a bootcamp or degree as long as you can show the interviewer that you have learned the basics of what they are asking for and have a willingness to learn the rest.

I think that everyone has a different way of learning and actually retaining things. I personally learn things on the job/project. If I need something special for a project I will read about it, practice with tutorials and if satisfied I will incorporate it into a project. Doing real work with a language or framework is actually the best way to actually gain valuable knowledge.

You will eventually find the way that is most comfortable for you to learn things. One thing is certain in this profession: if you just want to keep up and stay current you will have to devote time in learning. If not you might become obsolete before you realize.

If you are a person that likes to read and learn and not settle on what you know it certainly something you can get good at and would definetelly advise you to keep going. It might be tough and overwhelming when starting but just focus on project and try to get it complete.

It will not hurt to dream where you want to be in the next 5 years and start learning everything that will bring you closer to that dream. Don't be afraid to look at job descriptions and imagine yourself working for companies and even do some trial interviews to see how things go. There is also the possibility of working on your own like a freelancer and the remote work possibilities of this industry create very unique opportunities.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or you want some more specific advice or just need help clearing things in your head ...

Good luck with your journey.
