Hello World!! This is a Junior Contributor

After 6 months of commercial experience as a Junior Developer and a coding bootcamp, I feel there is still a long path to ahead. I really love developers that share because it is a great way to learn. In this sense, although I'm not an expert, I feel I can still contribute to the community in some sort of way.

Hello World

Since uni, I have been involved with startups which is where I have met incredible people. Individuals that want to create an impact in the world improving how things are done. I have been in different roles related to business, sales, growth, project management, product and I have always felt that coding is a key skill. A couple of years ago, it was my time to focus on it. I joined a bootcamp and just when I finished, I landed a job in an upscale startup.

There is still a long journey and I'm doing great progress step by step. I would appreciate feedback from people on what are the best ways to contributing. Tips related to:

  • Generating content: what sites or tips to take into account?
  • Getting involved in open source projects.
  • Other alternatives to consider.

Hey Feralamillo! I see this post is a few months old - how has your learning been going?

One thing I found was that I learn a ton by teaching things; so I would recommend doing things like posting on DEV :), going to meetups and giving lightning talks, making small posts on twitter about things you learned, etc... it all adds up!

Thanks Chris!! I am currently volunteering at Codebar. For a talk maybe a very entry-level would be fine.

Regarding posts, it's in my to-do list for some months already. I have been preparing some articles of small things that have taken time to learn (and therefore can be helpful for others) but I feel I need to improve them before posting. I believe is just a mind thing and at some point, I'll feel they are ready and then I'll start publishing them.

Sounds like you're progressing well then!

If you have the itch to publish them, then I wouldn't worry too much about improving them beyond whatever you've already done :) It can be easy to get stuck in an endless "edit" loop without ever publishing... but at some point it just has to go out! Good luck ;)

Hey Feralamillo!

I'm thinking you might appreciate reading @aspittel's post here:

Which can give you some basic pointers for writing on DEV (dev.to) and just about the site in general.

Also, consider checking out the "meta" tag here:

#meta

Discuss all things Dev.to!

which is used to talk about anything having to do with DEV.
