It’s great to see NLP implemented in Javascript for once (as opposed to Python), but have you ever considered the ethics of making a chatbot out of your friend? The friend might not like it.
Using Facebook messages as a dataset is for demonstration purposes only. The important point here is to gather enough data that can be classified reliably. I choose Facebook as this is something a lot can relate to, and the amount of data was also more than enough for building a chatbot from scratch. I did try it out on one of my connections for the purpose of this tutorial, all after consulting with him. He was quite impressed with the results 🙂 Just to clarify, I do not endorse using private messaging history for production applications even with the consent of the other party.
