Network visualization of keywords relating to penicillin

A network visualization of keywords relating to penicillin was created using VosViewer and data from PubMed.gov.

Due to the limitations of PubMed.gov only the first 10,000 most relevant search results out of 109,239 were downloaded. These were analyzed on Vosviewer based on co-occurrence of MeSH keywords. Only keywords with 10 or more occurrences were shown in the network visualization.

Network visualization of keywords relating to penicillin

The three keywords with the most occurrences are "penicillin g", "penicillins" and "humans". From this we can infer that there are multiple types of penicillin, with penicillin g being the most commonly studied type.

Closer look at animals and humans

From looking closer we can infer that the most commonly studied animals with regards to penicillin are rats, rabbits, mice, and cattle. We cannot conclude that studies on effects of penicillin on humans is more common than studies on animals. Looking at the "human," and "animal," keywords we see that they are linked, meaning that studies that mention both humans and animals exist. Thus we cannot say that humans are more studied than animals because there are more occurrences of "human".

Due to lack of pre-processing of the dataset no relation between time frame and keywords can be made.
