Fundamentally there are no shortcuts on either side of the interview table. I've started pushing back on technical interviews whatever the format may be even though whiteboard interviews are my favorite format.
I suspect most technical interview practices err too much on the side of reducing false positive rates when really folks should figure out how to hire and fire quickly.
