Seeing the option to upload a video file to Dev.to got me thinking about making my own videos. If I were to do it I think I'd like to make it more of a video journal where I talk about my experiences and thoughts in tech. I'm not sure if I would want to do instructional videos about code. That's not really the kind of content I want to create. There are lots of people doing that very well already. I would rather focus on the human experience of being in tech and working with code.
The videos would likely be short single take journal entry style where I talk about something I am experiencing. It would be fun at one point to bring in other folks to "interview" or be a part of the conversation so that it isn't just me rambling into my computer screen every time.
This feels like something I would enjoy making and would make getting my ideas out to others easier than writing posts. I tend to enjoy a simpler stream of thought for my communication and writing like that is kind of hard. Plus, I really want to work on my public speaking skills and this seems like a way to be able to practice voicing my thoughts and communicating them clearly.
Mostly, this would benefit me as I would get practice speaking and hopefully learn from those who watch and comment. Even if no one watches them I would still get a lot from doing this.
I feel like I am answering my own question and that I will likely do it, but what do you think?
Does this sound interesting? Would you want to watch me ramble on about code and tech?
I do need to think about how I would do this. Likely I would just be using my computer's web cam and maybe a mic that I have, but I'm not really sure. Do you have any advice on how to produce at least some decent quality videos? Can you offer any advice on making them accessible with subtitles and transcripts?
Should I just post them to youTube and embed them here?
Has anybody tried uploading a video to Dev.to here and using it in a post? I know it is considered beta right now, but I'm happy to be an early adopter and to deal with the issues from that.
Let me know what you think in the comments!
