I consider it hazing at this point. It's far from an accurate representation of what we do on a daily basis for most jobs. If you're sitting there writing algos all day, maybe... In most cases that isn't the case.

I also noticed those types of puzzles are usually supported by people who learned that way, again not fair for those with a different background.

I spend a lot of my time helping people get into freelance and I often need to tell them don't allow people to vet you like they would an employee. Defeats some of the best reasons of being a freelancer.
