Today we will be looking at the Gmail + plus action to make your life easier!
Nowadays, we get so much email and it gets cluttered quickly.

Gmail + email address
In Gmail you get a specific email address let's say:
info@daily-dev-tips.com or chrisbongers@gmail.com
You can also use a plus to receive certain emails:
info+social@daily-dev-tips.com or chrisbongers+spam@gmail.com
These will arrive in your normal mailbox!
That is already very cool. You can use it to sign into one service with the same address (Twitter personal + business)
But, we are using it to put emails in certain categories!
Gmail + sign filter
First, go to the filter section and add a new filter:
- Settings
- Filters and Blocked Addresses
- Create a new Filter
Within this filter, type the email address in the To field.
Hit the Create filter button
Then we can set up our filter however we like. In my case I'm only sending these emails to a specific category, but you could also mark them as read for instance.
That's it! Emails send to info+social@daily-dev-tips.com will now end up in my Social category.

I have my own domain with a catchall and rules as you have described. It's easy to see where the spam originates from as well. For example shadywebsite@mctweb.com or dev@mctweb.com etc.
Made email from personal domain a month ago and it is blessing when you don't need to open 2-3 tabs in browser and log in to accounts.
Also gmail is awfully slow and i prefer folder management with filters.
You find Gmail slow?
For me it works pretty fast on personal domain.
I use gsuite/gmail with my domain and have no issues with speed. Works great across all my devices and syncs really quickly.
Yes, loving the custom domains, I also use them a lot, this can also be used for origin and spam detection.
Another Gmail tip:
A dot "." in gmail address is ignored. If your Gmail address is firstname.lastname@gmail.com it is equivalent (and fully working as a valid alias to your dot equipped address) as firstnamelastname@gmail.com or f.i.r.s.t.n.a.m.e.l.a.s.t.n.a.m.e@... or first....name....last....name@gmai...
Yes but this isn’t fool proof,
Back in the days (15 years ago) this wasnt the case so I’m one of the unfortunate people where someone else has the exact same e-mail address but with a dot 🤯
I have had an Gmail account since 2005 (also 15 years ago) and this worked since the beginning for me. It seems strange to me it behaves differently for you.
Edit: It's even officially listed in Gmail support article support.google.com/mail/answer/743...
So what happened is that my personal is
Chrisbongers@gm
And someone has
Chris.bongers@gm
I can use any dot other then that one and it will come to my box, just that combi will go to the other person 🤦
Atleast haven’t physically tested this for 2 years, might have been fixed by gmail.
