I upload all my projects to github and have a personal portfolio where i have a link to the corresponding github project. My personal portfolio website is hosted by github pages which is free.
Now if you want to host your github projects you can use github pages for static sites or you can use other services like heroku to host nodejs ruby or other projects. Heroku is also free so if you have the time to develop a personal portfolio i would suggest to do it. It can only help 😀😀

Heroku is an amazing platform, I did some tests on it with a NodeJS app.
