It's by chance that I found this article as currently I'm in a process of organizing my tools and projects so that I can improve my focus and do the most important ones these quarantine days.
Multitasking
In the NatGeo show "Juegos Mentales" (I think), they showed that multitasking is not possible. And as your article mentions computers do just one thing a time(very fast), humans can't do many things at once.
As my high school gym teacher used to told us: "You cannot run and chew gum at the same time".
Brain Dumping
Taking everything out of the head is something I do really practice as much as I can. I try to use every tool available so that my ideas are in paper or in the web but not in my head.
Freeing up my brain from memorizing stuff helps me to focus in the thing I'm doing right now.
Do Less
I'd add this as a personal experience being a developer. In the book Getting Real, one of the essays mentions that we should strive to always do less in order to achieve stuff.
They aren't saying you shouldn't do something but divide that something into small pieces, prioritize and do the important ones first.
Doing less means freeing up the brain, having more time to focus on the important stuff and achieving deadlines.
