there's annotations to cover rewrite rules as well kubernetes.github.io/ingress-nginx... which would be appropriate for a non-router based app.
I haven't tried it myself yet, but it nginx-ingress now seems viable enough to replace the sidecar/pod reverse-proxy for PHP deployments
